Victoria, TX : Auto-pedestrian wreck sends youth to hospital on February, Monday 5th 2018
A 16-year-old boy was taken to a hospital after he was hit by a vehicle in the 7300 block of U.S. 87 on Monday afternoon.
The youth was walking south on U.S. 87 in front of Victoria West High School when one of his friends backed up in traffic in the inside lane asked him whether he wanted a ride about 4:30 p.m., said Sgt. Billy Bernard, of the Victoria Police Department. The youth went across the southbound outside lane and was struck by an Acura driven by Veronica Salinas, 40, of Victoria.
"He went to the hospital with minor injuries to his arm. There's no damage to the vehicle," Bernard said. "He darted across the outside lane to go to the inside lane, and that car hit him. He's pretty lucky."
The youth was taken to DeTar Hospital Navarro for treatment.
Officers ruled the wreck as the pedestrian's fault for running into the roadway, Bernard said. No citations were issued.
