A 29-year-old man and a 10-year-old girl died in a head-on crash on Highway 97 near La Pine on Sunday night.

Emergency crews responded to Milepost 171 at 8 p.m.

Investigators said a northbound 1991 Lexus crossed the centerline and hit an oncoming 2016 Ford Fusion.

The driver of the Lexus, Alan James Eutsler, 29, of Bend, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Ford, Donald Adams, 45, and his front passenger, Barbara Adams, 30, were flown to the hospital with injuries described as life-threatening.

Their 10-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son were both in the car. The girl was pronounced dead at the scene. The boy was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The family is from Rathdrum, Idaho, according to police.

Investigators said speed and unlawful passing by Eutsler are considered the leading factors in the crash.

Highway 97 was closed for more than four hours after the crash. Oregon State Police were assisted by and the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office, Sunriver Police, La Pine Rural Fire Protection District and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
