Monessen, PA : Woman identified in bus crash in Dravosburg on Sunday, September 3, 2017
Authorities on Sunday identified the woman killed over the weekend when her car collided with a Port Authority bus in Dravosburg while she was talking on her cell phone, Allegheny County police said.
Jennifer Sprowls, 41, of Dravosburg, was fatally injured while driving southbound in the 600 block of the Pittsburgh-McKeesport Boulevard. She lost control the of the vehicle, striking the guardrail and then a bus around 8:35 a.m., police said. Sprowls was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:42 a.m., the county medical examiner's office reported.
The incident was recorded by a video camera on the bus, police said. She was not wearing a seatbelt and was talking to coworkers on the phone at the time of the incident, police said.
The bus driver was treated at UPMC Mercy for unknown injuries and later released, said Jim Ritchie, Port Authority spokesman. His identity is not being released.
There were no passengers on the bus, which was not in service at the time and was traveling to the West Mifflin operating division, Ritchie said. The 61C bus route originates in McKeesport and has routes to Downtown Pittsburgh.
