Gulfport, MS : Gulfport child hit by car while running to school bus on Dedeaux Road near Jackson on Tuesday morning, March 21, 2017

A scary scene Tuesday morning on Dedeaux Road in Gulfport. A WLOX News Now viewer emailed us about a child hit by a car on Dedeaux Road near Jackson Street at 6:35 a.m.

Police say an 11-year-old girl missed the bus. She reportedly thought she could catch it by dashing across a heavily traveled Dedeaux Road. Gulfport police say the girl started running across the road when she was hit by the mirror of a Chevrolet Avalanche.

Police say the girl, who is a Harrison County School District student, was not seriously injured. She was taken to the hospital just to be safe. Police on the scene did not file charges against the driver.
