Victoria, TX : One killed, six injured in head-on crash on Sunday October 9 2016
One person died and six were injured, four critically, in a head-on crash on FM 621 last Sunday.
Vanessa Roano, 32, of San Marcos was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Joann Prado, Sgt. Darryl Jiral of the Texas Highway Patrol said.
She was a passenger in a 2004 Mazda driven by 30-year-old Jonathan Aguilar, who was taken to University Medical Center at Brackenridge with critical injuries.
A third person in the Mazda identified as 35-year-old Ray Tobias of San Marcos was also critically injured and taken to St. David’s Hospital in Austin.
The second vehicle, and the one Jiral said crossed the center line, was a 2011 Toyota Rav 4. The driver, 27-year-old Kimberley Lopez of San Marcos, along with passenger Arthur Prieto, 28, of Kyle were taken to UMC Brackenridge with critical injuries. Two children in the vehicle, five-year-old Faith Prieto and one-year-old Austin Prieto, both of Kyle, had serious injuries and were taken to Del Children’s Hospital.
Jiral said the crash happened at approximately 8:15 p.m. about two tenths of a mile east of CR 266 in a straight stretch of road. The weather was clear and the pavement was dry.
He said there was no indication alcohol was involved but at this point in the investigation, nothing can be ruled out including driver distraction.
Jiral said the Toyota was headed outbound on FM 621 and the Mazda was headed inbound when the Toyota crossed the center lane and the two vehicles hit head-on.
