MARION COUNTY, OR : Aurora man dies in crash between pickup, parked semi on I-5 in Marion County on Friday, 19th January 2024

A 47-year-old man died early Friday in a crash between a pickup truck and a parked semi on Interstate 5 in Marion County, the Oregon State Police said on Saturday.

Shortly before 1 a.m., police responded to the report of a crash on I-5 near milepost 278.

According to investigators, Douglas Shane Johnston of Aurora was driving a Ford F-150 south on I-5 when he drove onto the shoulder of the freeway. The Ford pickup smashed into the back of a Freightliner semi-truck and trailer that was parked along the road.

Johnston was declared dead at the scene.
