Albany,NY : Driver arrested after deadly crash near Manhattan Bridge on December, Tuesday 26th 2017

A motorist has been arrested on drunken driving charges after slamming into a New York City fire hydrant in a crash that killed his teenage passenger.

Twenty-two-year-old Gerald Joseph of Brooklyn was arrested after the wreck early Tuesday near the Manhattan Bridge. It’s not immediately clear whether he has an attorney who can comment on the charges.

The crash killed 17-year-old Shareef Bellerand of Brooklyn. Police say he was trapped inside the vehicle and was found unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police say Joseph lost control of the car while going over the bridge and hit a hydrant on the Manhattan side with enough force that the car overturned.

Joseph was able to escape the vehicle. He was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
