Terre Haute, IN : Cory woman injured in ATV accident in Clay County on Saturday, 24th September 2016
An all-terrain vehicle crashed Saturday afternoon in rural Clay County, injuring the driver.
Samantha Jo Stoops, 25, of Cory was taken to Terre Haute Regional Hospital after her westbound ATV drifted off County Road 100 South, near Cory, and flipped over, pinning her underneath the vehicle at about 3:45 p.m. Indiana Conservation Officer Max Winchell said a nearby farmer was able to use his tractor to pull the ATV off Stoops before rescue personnel arrived.
Winchell said Stoops, who was riding by herself, may have been distracted when she turned to look for her hat after it flew off her head. He mentioned that Stoops' injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, although she did complain of chest and shoulder pain.
Stoops was conscious and alert, Winchell added. A Regional Hospital nursing supervisor said she was in good condition Saturday night.
