ATLANTA, GA : Crash damages 2 utility poles, closes street in Midtown Atlanta on Thursday, 29th February 2024

Emergency crews have a section of 10th Street NE in Midtown closed off because of a utility pole that snapped, leaving power lines dangerously dangling over the street.

Atlanta Police, Marta Police, Georgia Tech Police, and Georgia Power are all on the scene. The street is blocked off near Hemphill Ave. NE. Traffic is being diverted through a shopping plaza parking lot.

Right now, it appears that the utility lines are holding up the broken pole, which is severed at the top portion of the pole.

Georgia Power says a car crash caused the pole to snap, knocking out power to about 85 people in the area. They say power should be restored by 11 a.m.
