Miami County, OH : Driver killed in a crash on U.S. Route 40 in Bethel Township on Wednesday, January 7, 2015

A late-night crash on U.S. Route 40 in Bethel Township claimed the life of one man.

The Miami County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim as 21-year-old Brandon Tyree of Phoneton.

Miami County deputies investigating the crash say that the cause of the accident was speed.

The crash occurred shortly before 11 p.m. when Tyree, traveling eastbound on U.S. Route 40 lost control of his vehicle.

The car went off road, through fencing and a wooded area, and traveled a few hundred yards on snow-covered ground. The car crashed head-on into a stand of trees.

The incident began well into Miami
County and the vehicle came to rest off the highway in Clark County.

Bethel Township fire and rescue units initially requested that CareFlight be put on standby but once on the scene rescinded that request after determining that the victim had not survived.


There were no other people in the car and no other vehicles were involved in the accident.
