Chesterfield, IN : Teenager injured in hit-and-run accident on East 200 North on Wednesday afternoon, May 4, 2016

An unidentified female teenager was taken unconscious to an Anderson hospital, and an unidentified male juvenile was arrested in Daleville on Wednesday afternoon following a three-vehicle hit-and-run collision on County Road 200 North.

Melanie Bertram, who lives in the 3500 block of East 200 North, told Madison County Sheriff's Department investigators she was followed eastward by the male driver, who was followed by another vehicle, driven by a female teenager, on East 200 North, said Madison County Sheriff Scott C. Mellinger.

As Bertram prepared to turn into her driveway, she looked into her rearview mirror and saw the teenage boy speed up to pass her, she told investigators. At the same time, the teenage girl allegedly sped up to pass the boy's vehicle, which had the three vehicles driving abreast, Mellinger said.

“She (Bertram) doesn’t know who hit who first,” he said. However, the male's car struck Bertram’s vehicle, and the teenage girl struck his vehicle before driving into a patch of woods.

“Her car sustained a lot of damage, and it came to rest on all four tires,” he said.

Mellinger said he’s not sure to which hospital the girl was transported. He said she had been sedated, and the extent of her injuries was uncertain.
