Troy, OH : One man is dead after crashing his motorcycle at Polecat Road On Monday, May 23rd, 2016
One man is dead after crashing his motorcycle on Polecat Road, near Troy, on Monday.
Troy medics were dispatched to the 1000 block of Polecat Road, between Piqua-Troy and DeWeese Road, on the report of a motorcycle crash and the victim not breathing.
They arrived on the scene to find an off-duty sheriff’s deputy and another rider, who is reportedly an EMT, performing CPR on the victim.
Medics continued to work on the victim who was transported to Upper Valley Medical Center and pronounced dead on arrival.
Captain Dave Norman of the Miami County Sheriff’s Department was off-duty and driving on Polecat Road in his personal vehicle when a group of motorcyclists approached from behind is vehicle. Norman stated that while most of the group
seemed content to remain behind his vehicle, one of the riders kept “goosing” his motorcycle. As the rider began to pull out to pass on the winding country road, Norman said that he waived his badge outside the window in an attempt to get the
motorcyclist to slow down.
The rider took off around Norman’s vehicle at a high rate of speed.
At this time, a large tractor pulling a piece of equipment was coming the opposite direction on Polecat.
The motorcyclist rounded a curve and struck the farm machinery at a high rate of speed, ejecting the rider. His motorcycle stopped approximately 40 yards further down the road.
Norman stopped as he came upon the crash. He and one of the other riders performed CPR until Troy paramedics arrived. The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash but due to the high speed of the crash and the extent of his
injuries, the helmet could not protect him.
The name of the victim has not been released. The driver of the tractor was not injured.
Polecat Road remains closed while Miami County Sheriff’s Department crash reconstructionists do their investigation.
