TOWN OF AVA, NY : Woman stationed in Army at Fort Drum killed in crash in Oneida County on Sunday, September 17th 2017
A woman killed in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning is stationed in the United States Army at Fort Drum, according to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff's deputies won't release the victim's name until they notify her relatives.
Deputies said Miles Wilson-King, 23, of Virginia, was driving a 2016 Toyota Corolla northbound on Route 26 in the Town of Ava. He is also stationed at Fort Drum and was heading back with his passenger to the base.
Around 3 a.m., their vehicle crossed the southbound lane, left the road and struck a tree next to a home, deputies said. The woman was taken to Rome Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Wilson-King was evaluated at the scene and refused to be treated, deputies said.
Both Wilson-King and his passenger were wearing seatbelts, and it does not appear that drugs or alcohol were a factor, deputies said. However, final results of the investigation are pending.
