One person is dead after a crash involving five vehicles in Port Charlotte on Thursday.

The crash happened around 3 p.m. on US-41 and Elkcam Boulevard.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, a 1999 Dodge truck was traveling north on US-41 near Olean Boulevard. For an unknown reason, the truck crashed into the back of a Chevy Blazer and continued traveling north.

The Dodge truck then crashed into the back of another truck -- which struck the rear of another vehicle.

The Dodge truck continued traveling north onto the left shoulder of Elkcam Boulevard and struck a traffic sign. The truck began traveling east and struck three construction barrels.

The truck finally came to a stop after hitting a ditch on the east shoulder of Elkcam Boulevard.

The driver of the truck – identified as 77-year-old Stanley Blumenthal – was pronounced dead. Another driver was taken to Bayfront Hospital in Port Charlotte for minor injures.

The crash is still under investigation.
