Bullock County, AL : 18-year-old Chelsey Person died after weekend crash Highway 82 on Sunday March 6 2016
The crash site is beyond mile marker 208 on Highway 82 East, three miles west of Union Springs. The collision was so powerful, car parts could be found over a 40-yard area near the highway.
It is here where 16-year-old Jalyric Tarver and 18-year-old Chelsey Person died Sunday morning around 12:20 a.m. This is the same spot where 17-year-old Destiny Parker and another teenager were injured.
The teens were all traveling together in a Ford Mustang when it collided with a Nissan Altima driven by 28-year-old Tamarcus Burt of Huntsville, according to Alabama State Troopers.
Troopers say Tarver and Person weren't wearing their seat belts.
At Bullock County High School, more than 20 students didn't show up for class Monday morning. The news was apparently too overwhelming for some.
"My heart is heavy. They are mostly family members and friends of the students," said Bullock County High School Principal Derrick Harris.
The tragedy was the talk of Bullock County beyond the high school.
"They were all nice girls. I loved them all. They were really friendly and outspoken," said Annette Williams.
Person and Tarver lived in Midway, as well as the girls who were injured.
"Their lives had just begun, and that's what makes it so sad," said Bullock County Commissioner James Perry, who represents district one which covers Midway.
State traffic investigators say they have a very good idea what caused the crash, but aren't willing to publicly say until they wrap up their investigation.
Jalyric was well liked by everyone, a sweet girl who was very close to me. Now Chelsey was a sweet girl as well. She was more outgoing and liked to have fun," said Bullock County High School Assistant Principal Kelia Browder.
