One person is dead after being struck by a car in North Fort Myers Saturday morning.
The crash happened around 6:30 a.m. on Pine Island Road near Woodward Avenue.
According to Florida Highway Patrol troopers, a white BMW was driving west on Pine Island Road. At the same time, a pedestrian was crossing Pine Island Road in the crosswalk at the Woodward Avenue intersection.
The pedestrian walked into the path of the vehicle and was struck. The driver failed to notice the pedestrian due to the area being dark and the pedestrian's dark, non-reflective clothing.
Upon impact, the pedestrian went onto the hood of the vehicle and struck his head on the windshield. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cecile Long, a seasonal resident witnessed the activity.
"I looked over there. I saw all the commotion. I said 'Don, what is that?' So, he pulled in here. Here we are. It's just really shocking, It's very sad."
The car's driver who is from Miami was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
