Prince William County, VA : Police investigate crash on Lee Highway that killed Gainesville man on Tuesday night October 14th 2014

A 39-year-old Gainesville man died in an accident Tuesday night after his SUV hit a car and sped down Lee Highway, striking an overpass, Prince William County police said. Authorities said the man, Grant Austin Christensen, died at an area hospital just after the 9:54 p.m. collision. According to police, Christensen’s 2011 GMC Denali was making a right turn onto Lee Highway from Linton Hall Road when it hit a 1992 Honda Accord. The car, driven by a 55-year-old Maryland man, was making a left turn onto Lee Highway, a police press release said. After the first crash, authorities said the Denali sped northbound on Lee Highway and lost control. At one point the SUV became airborne and struck a concrete pillar of the Interstate 66 overpass in Gainesville, the release said. Police said speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the accident, according to the release. No one else was injured in the collisions, which authorities said are still under investigation. Prince William County police ask that anyone with information contact Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS. Authorities said callers may remain anonymous and could earn up to a $1,000 cash reward.
