Stolen car crashes, rolls down NE Marine Dr. embankment
Two people have been detained after crashing a stolen car down an embankment in Northeast Portland Thursday morning.
The crash occurred just after 9:30 a.m. at Northeast Marine Drive at 33rd Avenue, along the Columbia River. Witnesses told Portland police that the Saturn was going east on Marine Drive when it drifted into the westbound lanes and was sideswiped by two oncoming vehicles, a box truck and an SUV. The car hit a guard rail and rolled down an embankment.
The two occupants of the car, a man and woman, were treated at the scene for minor injuries. No one else was hurt. After officers learned that the car had been reported stolen, they were detained for questioning.
Marine Drive was reduced to one lane for about 90 minutes while emergency responders cleared the scene.
