North Highlands, California
Police in Northern California say a woman was killed and another slightly injured when a man punched and kicked them while they exercised at a neighborhood high school track.
Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Tony Turnbull says the elderly women were walking on the track in Highlands High School in North Highlands when they were targeted by a stranger early Wednesday. A person who was also exercising at the track called police.
He says an 86-year-old woman died at the scene and that her 61-year-old companion was slightly injured and received treatment at the school.
Authorities have not released the names of the two women.
Turnbull says investigators don’t know what prompted the attack and that the suspect fled the scene.
