Culpeper, VA : Three people injured in multi-vehicle crash on Thursday August 5th 2015
A Culpeper teen who ran a red light caused a multi-vehicle accident Thursday on U.S. 29 and route 666 that sent three to the hospital, according to Virginia State Police.
Crystal Dodson, 18, of Rixeyville was traveling from Eastern View High School in a 1993 Buick station wagon when she went through the red light at U.S. 29 around 12:45 p.m., causing a chain reaction on the four-lane highway. She has been charged with failure to obey a traffic signal, according to VSP Sgt. Les Tyler.
As Dodson crossed the northbound lane and entered the southbound lane, she struck a 2003 Jeep SUV being driven by Anthony Drinkard, 46, of Washington, D.C., according to Tyler. The 2003 Jeep then spun around into the southbound lane of U.S. 29, striking a 2005 Nissan SUV being driven by David R. Bell, 59, of Greensboro, North Carolina.
Following that impact, the 2003 Jeep was pushed to the right striking a 2001 Jeep SUV sitting at the stoplight occupied by motorist Donna Smith-Stalnailer, 53, of Culpeper and passenger Audrey A. Barley, 59, of the Culpeper area, according to Tyler. The 2001 Jeep then struck a light pole, impacting the Nissan that went off the road and struck an embankment before spinning around and colliding with a tractor-trailer sitting at the light. The 2001 Kenworth tractor-trailer was occupied by motorist Douglas M. Gunn, 73, of Dinwiddie.
Dodson, Drinkard and Barley were all transported from the scene to UVa Culpeper Hospital. All three had been discharged by Friday, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
