CEDAR LAKE, IN : A fatal hit-and-run accident on Saturday, June 3, 2017
Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred Saturday night.
About 10:55 p.m. the Cedar Lake Police and Fire departments responded to the 12500 block of U.S. 41 for a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle in the southbound lanes. On arrival it was determined Stanley D. Sellers, 62, of Chicago, had been struck by an unknown southbound vehicle and died upon impact. Police said the driver of the vehicle that struck Sellers did not stop after the crash.
Police said Sellers was in the southbound lanes of U.S. 41 and it is not known if he was walking in the roadway or attempting to cross it.
Family was notified by the Lake County coroner’s office, at which time police discovered Sellers had been in the Schererville area about 10 p.m. with a friend inside his vehicle. For an unknown reason, the two of them had an argument and Sellers exited the vehicle and decided to walk, police said. Sellers refused attempted to get him back in the vehicle and kept walking, police said. The driver of the vehicle was not able to persuade Sellers to get back inside his vehicle, so he drove off.
