Thonotosassa, FL : Three people died after a four-vehicle crash in east Hillsborough County early Saturday morning, July 2, 2016
Three people died after a four-vehicle crash early Saturday morning at the intersection of U.S. 301 and Stacy Road in east Hillsborough County.
The Florida Highway Patrol has identified the victims: Elisa Chantel Riquelme, 28, of Zephyrhills was driving a Volkswagen Beetle; Matthew Alfonso Garcia, 24 of Riverview was the driver of a Ford Explorer; and Corey Samuel Dormany, 24, of Seffner was a passenger in Garcia's vehicle. They all died at the scene.
At 5:40 a.m. Saturday, Riquelme was heading south on U.S. 301 when she tried to pass another vehicle and entered the northbound lane, according to an FHP report. Riquelme then collided head-on with the Explorer. The SUV's driver was ejected.
Troopers are determining whether alcohol was a factor.
A third vehicle, a Ford F-150 driven by Gordon Jones Price, 64, of Tampa and carrying two other people, was traveling north and rear-ended the Explorer, which burst into flames. The fourth car, a Chevy S10, hit the back of the F-150.
One passenger in the F-150 and Stevie Tyrone Gainey, 58, of Tampa, the driver of the Chevy S10, suffered minor injuries and were taken to Florida Hospital for treatment.
No charges have been filed.
FHP said U.S. 301 was closed for several hours Saturday morning but was reopened around 11 a.m.
