STAMFORD, CT : Henkel employee dies in pedestrian crash in Stamford on Tuesday, 2nd January 2018
A Fairfield woman was struck and killed in a crosswalk while walking to her job near the exit 8 ramp of Interstate 95 Tuesday morning.
Sgt. Andrew Gallagher said the woman, 58, was crossing Elm Street shortly after 7 a.m. in front of the new Henkel headquarters where she works when she was hit. After stepping off the curb, she was struck by a 2016 Dodge Sprinter van that was making a right turn from Elm Street onto North State Street.
Gallagher had a warning for drivers in the busy intersections of downtown Stamford.
“Motorists should be warned that when they are making a right at a red light or turning corners they need to be on the proper lookout for pedestrians. That, clearly, was not the case this morning,” said Gallagher, who said he believes the woman was walking to work from the Stamford train station.
He declined to discuss details of the investigation but said he expected to release the name of the woman on Wednesday.
