Lacey, WA : Wrong way crash on I-5 near Lacey on May 16th 2014
An alleged wrong way driver is facing possible vehicular assault charges after crashing into another vehicle on Interstate 5 early Friday morning.
The Washington State Patrol said a 44-year-old man got on I-5 at Marvin Road near Lacey a little after midnight, but was headed north in the southbound lanes. After driving about three miles, the driver slammed into another car with two men, 47 and 43.
“When the first troopers arrived, all three people were up and mobile, including the 47-year-old victim who had an apparent broken pelvis. He was in obvious, excruciating pain, but was able to ask for help,” said Sgt. Robert Brazas, Washington State Patrol.
All three people were taken to the hospital. Troopers say the two victims were wearing seatbelts, but the alleged wrong way driver was not. He complained of a sore shoulder and arm.
The suspect was booked into the Thurston County Jail and booked for vehicular assault. WSP is determining if drugs and alcohol were factors.
