A Beloit man died and two people were seriously injured in a head-on crash on Highway 59 on Sunday afternoon, according to a Rock County Sheriff's Office news release.
George Davis, 26, was driving a white Oldsmobile Bravado westbound on Highway 59 when he crossed the centerline into oncoming traffic at 12:48 p.m. The Oldsmobile struck an eastbound Black Dodge Caravan driven by Megan Haney, 38, of Milton, according to the release.
Davis was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger—Paul Shamp, 26, of Janesville—was taken to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center with serious injuries. Haney was taken to University Hospital in Madison by UW Med Flight, according to the release.
Initial reports indicated two victims were pinned in their vehicles. Witnesses stopped to help the victims before first responders arrived to extricate the two pinned drivers, according to the release.
The highway was closed for more than three hours as officials cleared the scene and reconstructed the crash. The cause of the accident is still under investigation, according to the release.
The Rock County Sheriff's Office, Edgerton police and fire departments and Milton Fire Department responded to the crash.
