Beaumont, TX : One-vehicle crash claims life of Kirbyville resident on September 28, 2016

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers are investigating a one-vehicle crash in Newton County that claimed the life of 31-year-old Kirbyville resident Derik Dewayne Claxton, reports Sgt. Stephanie Davis.

In news release, Davis stated that DPS received a report of the crash at approximately 6:40 p.m. on Sept. 27, and responded to the location of the accident on Highway 87 in Newton County just south of Trout Creek. Investigating troopers determined that a 2013 Nissan passenger vehicle was traveling northbound on Highway 87, and, for an unknown reason, the driver drove off the roadway. The vehicle continued off the roadway and struck a tree.

The driver received emergency medical treatment at the scene and was transported by ambulance to Jasper Memorial hospital in critical condition. He was later pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Ronald Billingsley.
