MAXWELL, VA : Victim identified in fatal Tazewell County crash on Monday, 17th October 2016

The Virginia State Police released the name Tuesday of a Tazewell County resident who died Monday as the result of a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 460.

The two-vehicle wreck occurred approximately 4:20 p.m. Monday, according to a dispatcher with the Virginia State Police detachment in Wytheville,Va. One person died in the crash. The crash was in the vicinity of the Maxwell community.

A tractor-trailer had just made a legal U-turn on Route 460 and pulled off onto the right shoulder to complete the turn. As it began to merge into the eastbound travel lanes, it pulled out in front of an eastbound 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, according to Corinne N. Geller, public relations director for the Virginia State Police. The Jeep was unable to avoid the logging truck and rear-ended it.

The driver of the Jeep, Michael E. Reynolds, 68, of Tazewell, Va., was transported to Tazewell Community Hospital where he died later that night. He was wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Brandon Blevins, 31, of Tazewell, Va., was not injured in the crash.

Blevins was charged with failure to yield the right of way, Geller said. The crash remains under investigationby Trooper S.K. Tucker of the Virginia State Police.
