Marion Oaks, FL : Motorcyclist killed in a fatal two vehicle crash on CR 484 Wednesday night, December 3, 2014
A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday night when he collided into an on-coming vehicle, according to Florida Highway Patrol troopers and eyewitnesses.
Troopers on scene said the deceased man, whose identity was not released pending family notification, was traveling behind a white Nissan Maxima that was traveling east on County Road 484 when he tried to pass the car on a curve in a no-passing zone.
Officials said the motorcyclist struck a car head-on that was in the westbound lane. The cyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, died on the roadway after he was thrown from the bike, officials said.
At this point, troopers said it's unknown if speed was a factor.
A man and a woman, described by troopers as a couple, were taken to West Marion Community Hospital with injuries that were descibed as not life-threatening. Their identities were not released by troopers.
Amanda Mace, the driver of the Nissan, told a Star-Banner reporter that she was on her way home, and the motorcyclist was behind her. She said as she was rounding the curve, she could hear the rider picking up speed and passing her.
Mace said once the rider struck the car, she turned her car around, got out to check on the motorcyclist. She said she checked for a pulse, but there was none. She said she then called 911.
“He was dead upon impact. It's sad,” adding she believe the rider probably couldn't see beyond her car.
Another driver, Jose Iglesias, who was driving a Honda Accord that was in the westbound lane, said he was behind the car that was hit. He said he saw a light came across the roadway and then it hit the car that was in front of him.
