STEUBENVILLE, OH : Two held after accident on Sunday, September 24th 2017
Two juveniles were taken into custody by City Police around noon on Sunday after they fled from a vehicle which struck an SUV, causing it to roll onto its roof, in the 2100 block of Sunset Boulevard.
A city officer was at the red light and Sunset Boulevard and Estelle Avenue when he said he heard a loud crash and saw the SUV on its roof. Another vehicle was coasting into oncoming traffic, and three male juveniles got out of the vehicle and took off running, police reported.
The officer said he was able to get into the coasting vehicle, getting it to stop. The officer said he then went to the overturned vehicle and found the driver upside down, being held in place by a seatbelt.
City firefighters responded and freed the driver, who was taken to Trinity Medical Center West.
Officers searched for the three juveniles, eventually taking two into custody.
A witness to the accident said he saw the juveniles speeding through the parking lot of McDonald’s and entering Sunset Boulevard before striking the SUV. The witness said the vehicle with the juveniles then hit his vehicle in the rear quarter panel.
The two juveniles, ages 14 and 15, were taken to the juvenile detention center.
