Authorities say a 43-year-old woman has been hit by a vehicle and killed while hitchhiking before dawn on a road in the Finger Lakes region.
The Ithaca Journal reports (http://ithacajr.nl/1vrLl1s ) that the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office says Rosalyn Degraw of Ovid was walking in the northbound lane of Route 96 around 4:45 a.m. Thursday when she was hit by a box truck in the town of Ithaca, on the southern end of Cayuga Lake.
Deputies say the truck is owned by a Rochester delivery company and was driven by a Binghamton man. The driver wasn't injured.
Police say alcohol or speed weren't contributing factors to the accident, which remains under investigation.
