Norway, ME : Massachusetts man dead in high-speed crash in Maine on Friday night, April 22, 2016
Maine State Police say a Massachusetts man is dead after a high-speed crash in the town of Norway.
Police say 36-year-old William Stella of Stoneham, Massachusetts, died when his car slammed head-on into another vehicle and burst into flames late Friday night.
Authorities say an Oxford County deputy had begun pursuing Stella in South Paris, Maine, where Stella was turning his car in rapid circles on Main Street. Police say the deputy had ended his pursuit of Stella, who took off at a high rate of speed, before the 11:15 p.m. crash occurred.
Stella's car crashed into one driven by 42-year-old Jennifer Clough of Norway, who was hospitalized for treatment of what police say were non-life-threatening injuries.
This story has been corrected to reflect that Stella is 36, not 38, based on updated information from law enforcement.
