CLAY, NY : Car bursts into flames after Clay crash on Sunday, December 4th, 2016

A 20-year-old Cicero woman had just stepped out of her car after a crash Sunday night on Soule Road in Clay when the car burst into flames, Onondaga County sheriff's Sgt. Jon Seeber said.

A member of the Moyers Corners Volunteer Fire Department took video of the 2006 Hyundai Elantra engulfed in flames after the crash on Soule Road at the intersection of the Route 481 South on-ramp.

Although the woman was not hurt in the fire, Northern Onondaga Volunteer Ambulance (NOVA) took her to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse with minor chest and hip pain, Seeber said.

The woman, whose name has not been released, was driving north on Soule Road at 5:55 p.m. Sunday when the driver of a southbound 2003 Chevrolet Venture minivan attempted to turn left onto the Route 481 on-ramp, Seeber said. Deputies also have not yet released the name of the minivan driver, a 19-year-old from LaFayette, who "drove into the path of the Hyundai," he said.

"Both drivers exited their vehicles at which time the Hyundai caught fire," Seeber said.

The car was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, Moyers Corners Battalion Fire Chief Jered Zeppetello said.

Moyers Corners volunteer firefighters extinguished the fire within a couple minutes, Zeppetello said. The fire went out quickly after firefighters put water on it, he said.

Deputies investigating the crash say the 19-year-old minivan driver failed to yield the right of way, Seeber said. The teen had minor knee pain after the crash, but refused medical treatment, Seeber said.

Both drivers were wearing their seat belts, he said.

The car was destroyed in the fire, Zeppetello said.
