STATEN ISLAND, NY : 2 injured in West Shore Expressway crash on February, Monday 5th 2018
Two people were injured in a two-car crash early Monday morning on the northbound side of the West Shore Expressway.
Extensive delays were reported as a result of the incident.
A preliminary investigation indicates that a 72-year-old man was driving a vehicle northbound on the West Shore Expressway near Victory Boulevard around 4 a.m. when he stopped in the roadway, according to information from the NYPD's Deputy Commissioner of Public Information and the FDNY/EMS.
The vehicle was rear-ended by another one, which remained on the scene, a police spokesman said.
The 72-year-old driver was transported to Staten Island University Hospital, according to police.
The driver of the other vehicle complained of minor injuries and was transported in stable condition to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton, according to police.
Officers from the NYPD's Highway Collision Investigation Squad were investigating the crash Monday. A badly damaged vehicle was seen crushed against a guardrail.
All lanes were shut down during the emergency response, according to Total Traffic NYC. As of 7:30 a.m., only the shoulder remained blocked, but there was still a delay of approximately 40 minutes. The traffic jam extends back to the Outerbridge Crossing.
