ANGLETON, TX : Woman injured after crashing into Angleton Kroger on Wednesday, 30th May 2018
A 65-year-old woman went by ambulance to UTMB Angleton Danbury Campus after she drove her SUV into the front of a grocery store, authorities said.
The woman, whose name was not released by police, crashed her 2018 Mercedes GLE 350 through a column then into the front wall of Kroger in Angleton at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to Angleton Police Cpl. Cameron Parsons. Her injuries did not appear to be serious enough for LifeFlight to be called, Parsons said.
The crash forced the store to close for about two hours while crews cleared debris and city officials inspected the building’s structure. Inspectors found no threat to the structure, clearing the store to resume normal business, Parsons said.
The driver was alone in the car and no one else was injured, Parsons said. The preliminary cause of the crash is driver error, Parsons said, but it is still under investigation.
The ClickList area of the store, where customers pick up groceries after ordering them online, was affected by the crash, said Sparkle Anderson, Kroger Co.’s corporate affairs manager. Customers who ordered through ClickList before 2:30 p.m. Tuesday will not be serviced, and they all have been notified, she said.
ClickList will remain unavailable today, but the store expects to resume the service Thursday, she said. Anderson apologized to customers for any inconvenience.
Angleton police, fire and EMS responded to the crash, Parsons said.
