Las Vegas, NV : Woman struck, killed by bus near Tropicana Avenue early Saturday, January 9, 2016
A woman is dead after an RTC bus veered onto a sidewalk early Saturday and struck her.
According to Metro Police:
The crash happened just after 5 a.m. in the area of Tropicana Avenue, east of Polaris Drive. A 2004 New Flyer RTC bus was traveling east on Tropicana in the outside lane and veered off the road for an “unknown reason." The bus, driven by 22-year-old Jamal Nichols, crashed into a bus shelter before striking the woman.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. It was unclear whether anyone else was injured.
The Regional Transportation Commission posted declined to comment but posted this statement on Facebook: "This morning's accident is a terrible tragedy, and our deepest condolences go to the victim's family. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the incident. As always, the RTC remains committed to ensuring public safety."
This is the fourth traffic-related fatality in Metro's jurisdiction in 2016. The crash remains under investigation.
