Columbia, SC : Two hit-and-runs in the same night for US 21 on Tuesday, August 1, 2017

Two incidents within the Burton Fire District were reported as hit-and-run incidents Tuesday night, according to fire officials.

The first was near 3076 Trask Parkway around 9 p.m., according to a fire district news release. A driver met firefighters at the business and said he was hit in the rear-driver’s side by another driver who then drove away. He sustained what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The vehicle had moderate damage, according to the release.

This crash is being investigated by South Carolina Highway Patrol, Lance Cpl. Matt Southern said Wednesday afternoon. The vehicle that left the scene allegedly made a left turn from Big Road onto U.S. 21, heading south, and failed to yield right of way, striking the other vehicle.

The second incident was around 10:30 p.m. on Parris Island Gateway near the Cross Creek Shopping Center, according to the release. Firefighters found a woman at 290 Robert Smalls Parkway who said she was struck by a vehicle. She sustained what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. No further details were available about this hit-and-run on Wednesday evening. Beaufort Police Department is investigating this incident.
