Decatur, IL : Channing L. Davis, 22, dies in crash on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive early Sunday, May 8, 2016

A Decatur woman died early Sunday when the vehicle she was riding in on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive left the road and hit a utility pole.

The accident happened at 2:39 a.m, close to Kellar Lane, and police say Channing L. Davis, 22, was taken to Decatur Memorial Hospital's emergency room. She was pronounced dead at 3:10 a.m. from multiple injuries to her head and body.

A second 20-year-old woman in the vehicle was hospitalized, but no update on her condition was available Sunday night.

Decatur police said alcohol appears to be a contributing factor in the accident. The crash is being investigated by the police department's Fatal Accident Investigation Team.
