Topeka, KS : 62-year-old woman killed in crash in southwest Kansas after swerving to avoid hitting deer in roadway on Saturday, February 11th 2017
A 62-year-old woman was killed Saturday night in a crash that occurred after the sport utility vehicle she was driving attempted to miss a deer on a southwest Kansas highway, authorities said.
The fatality victim was identified as Peggy Lee Snodgrass, of Ashland.
The crash was reported at 7:23 p.m. Saturday on US-160 highway about two miles west of Protection in Comanche County, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred when Snodgrass, who was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe sport utility vehicle east on US-160, swerved to avoid hitting a deer in the roadway, the patrol said.
The Tahoe entered the ditch and began to roll, ejecting Snodgrass from the vehicle, which came to rest about 20 feet from her body.
Snodgrass, who was alone in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. The patrol said she wasn’t wearing a seat belt.
