FOSSIL, OR : Two motorcyclists were killed and others were seriously injured on Tuesday, May 30, 2017
Two motorcyclists were killed and others were seriously injured when authorities say a female driver struck a group of riders on state Highway 19 near Fossil in central Oregon.
The Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office says Lisa Ann Niehaus was booked on criminally negligent homicide and other charges following Saturday night’s collision.
The office says a number of injured motorcycle riders remain in critical care at area hospitals.
The sheriff’s office did not release the names of those killed or injured.
Authorities say Niehaus crossed into an oncoming lane of traffic and struck a group of motorcycle riders headed to a local event. They were members of the Gypsy Jokers Motorcycle Club.
Volunteer medical crews and fire departments from several agencies responded. The highway was closed for nearly nine hours while crews worked to clear the wreckage.
