Burghill,OH : Strangers rescue family from icy crash on January, Tuesday 16th 2018
A Burghill woman and her five young children escaped injuries after their northbound van lost control on a snowy curve on Niles Vienna Road about 8 a.m. Tuesday and crashed into icy Girard Lake.
“The woman was pretty lucky,” Lt. Brian Darbey of the Vienna Police Department said.
The van landed on its side near the bank, cracking the ice but did not submerge, Darbey said.
Amber Wise, 34, said she was driving on Scoville North Road just west of the Trelucky Farm at 7:56 a.m. Tuesday when she noticed a woman standing on the side of the road looking down a hill. She stopped and saw the the dark, 1999 Chevrolet extended-length van on its side, the bottom set of wheels touching the bank and the roof partly in water.
