Tucson, AZ : A motorcyclist involved in a fatal vehicle collision on February, Thursday 1st 2018

A motorcyclist involved in a fatal vehicle collision Thursday afternoon has been identified by the Tucson Police Department.

Randy Zimmerman, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene after his motorcycle hit the side of an SUV on North Stone Avenue and East Blacklidge Drive.

Detectives determined that a black 2006 Kawasaki Sport and maroon 2013 Harley Davidson were sharing a curb lane at a red light on Stone Avenue at Glenn Street, a news release said.

Both motorcyclists quickly accelerated when the light changed, while the 1998 Jeep Cherokee was at a stop sign heading westbound on East Blacklidge Drive approaching North Stone Avenue.

When the Jeep proceeded in the roadway, Zimmerman -who was driving the Kawasaki motorcycle- collided into the side of it.

The operator of the Harley Davidson had enough time to lay the motorcycle down and slid on the roadway to prevent a second collision. The motorcyclist did sustain serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

The driver of the Jeep Cherokee was not injured and stayed at the scene. The rate of speed the riders were going appears to be a factor, the department said.

No citations or arrest have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
