Garden City, KS : A 22-year-old K. Bemis was killed in a two-vehicle accident at U.S. Highway 50 on Wednesday, July 20th, 2016
A 22-year-old Lakin woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 50 Wednesday morning that resulted in a two-hour closure of U.S. Highway 50.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Jose Martinez-Sotelo, 36, Garden CIty, was traveling west on U.S. Highway 50 in a 2012 Kenworth Tractor about three miles east of Deerfield and stopped to make a left turn onto Co-
op Road, when Madison K. Bemis, 22, Lakin, who was traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 50 in a 2011 Chrysler passenger vehicle, ran into the back of the tractor-trailer.
Bemis was pronounced dead at the scene. Martinez-Sotelo was not injured. According to the KHP, Bemis was not wearing a seatbelt and Martinez-Sotelo was wearing a seatbelt.
Accordint to KHP Trooper Michael Racy, U.S. Highway 83 was closed between 8 and 10 a.m. while the accident scene was investigated.
