MULBERRY, FL : 12-year-old killed in morning crash near Mulberry on Tuesday, December, 12th 2017
A Plant City child was killed early Tuesday after the car he was riding in turned into the path of a tractor-trailer on a stretch of State Road 60 near Mulberry.
Miguel Resendiz, 12, died at the scene of the 8 a.m. accident near Shady Hammock Drive, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.
The child was a front-seat passenger in a 2007 BMW 328 XI that was being driven by Maricela Resendiz, 29, also of Plant City, the release said. She was treated for serious injuries at Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center. A third occupant, Angel Resendiz, 4, also suffered serious injuries and was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa.
All three were wearing seat belts.
According to the FHP, Maricela Resendiz was traveling east on SR 60 when she attempted a left turn onto Bailey Road. Her vehicle was struck by a 1996 tractor-trailer traveling westbound.
The driver of the truck, Carlos Colchado, 38, of Fort Meade received minor injuries, the FHP said.
