Springfield, IL : Morgan County deputy, Jacksonville woman hurt in crash on I-72 on Thursday, 13th September 2018
Two people, including a Morgan County Sheriff’s deputy, suffered minor injuries Thursday morning during a crash on Interstate 72 near the Alexander exit, about 15 miles west of Springfield.
Illinois State Police reported a truck pulling a gooseneck livestock trailer driven by Cody A. Hadden, 21, of Jacksonville was traveling in the left lane of eastbound I-72 around 7:23 a.m. when the truck hit the rear of a car that had slowed down due to an earlier crash.
The car, driven by Dottie M. Duffy, 34, of Jacksonville, then struck an unoccupied Secretary of State police vehicle. A Morgan County deputy, who was standing on the shoulder assisting with the previous crash investigation, was struck by the Secretary of State vehicle.
The deputy, whose name wasn’t released, was transported to Memorial Medical Center in Springfield with minor injuries. Duffy was transported to Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville with minor injuries.
Hadden was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and following too closely.
