RapidCity, SD : A two-vehicle crash on Interstate 90 near Murdo on Sunday, September 17th 2017

Two people died Sunday in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 90 near Murdo.

According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, a 2013 Freightliner semitrailer was traveling eastbound at around 11:25 a.m. when it entered the median and went into the westbound lane 14 miles west of Murdo.

A 2017 Ram 1500 pickup was traveling westbound and struck the side of the Freightliner’s trailer, causing both vehicles to go into a ditch. The semi’s trailer and pickup both caught fire.

The pickup’s driver, a 64-year-old woman, and passenger, a 59-year-old man, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their names are being withheld until family members are notified. Both were wearing seat belts, highway patrol said.
