ANDERSON,SC : Driver hit, killed by deputy during chase on July, Sunday 23th 2017
The coroner has identified a man who was killed when his car was struck by a Anderson Co. deputy chasing a suspect.
Anderson deputies say they got a call around 7:45 Sunday night about a stolen vehicle at the 7/11 on Highway 8 and 81.
The car didn’t pull over when they tried to stop it and a chase began.
That chase ended with a fatal crash at Moore Rd. with a car not involved in the chase.
Coroner Greg Shore identified the victim as 22-year-old Joshua Caleb Martin.
Troopers say Martin was driving north on Highway 88 when a deputy struck him in the passenger side just before 8 p.m. Sunday.
The coroner said Martin was pinned inside the car and died at the scene.
The family says Martin was leaving a small group meeting at Mosaic Church in Easley.
“Josh was the type person who made everybody laugh he loved his family he loved his friend he loved his church family and he had a passion for God he was and always will be a blessing in our lives,” said Martin’s father Tommy Bowen.
He says they are having a celebration of Josh’s life at Mosaic of Easley on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
The funeral will be at Robinsons Funeral Home of Friday at 2 p.m. The service is at 3:45 p.m.
Greenville Technical College confirms Martin was a student in the mechatronics program related to advanced manufacturing.
