Colerain Township ,OH : Three people arrested after high Speed Chase Cras along I - 75 on Wednesaday, April 29 2015
WEST CHESTER TWP. — Three suspects are facing charges after a high-speed chase Wednesday ended in a crash on the Union Centre Boulevard entrance ramp onto Interstate 75.
The chase started around 10:30 a.m. on U.S. 27. in Colerain Twp. when police attempted to stop Rodney J. Hail, 42, of Kentucky, in a blue Ford F-250 after a check of the license plate at a traffic light came back as having an outstanding warrant attached for a misdemeanor, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol’s Cincinnati metro post.
“A Colerain Twp. police officer attempted to make a stop of the vehicle but the driver pulled into a gas station and then took off,” said Lt. Kevin Long.
The vehicle reached speeds as fast as 110 mph during the pursuit, which involved multiple units from Colerain Twp. police, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, Butler County Sheriff’s Office and OSHP at various stages of the more than 30-minute chase.
Hail led police north along Ohio 4 from Colerain Twp. through Fairfield and all the way to Middletown, then east on Ohio 63 and south to I-75’s Union Centre Boulevard exit, avoiding about two to three “stop stick” devices meant to deflate the pickup’s tires, Long said.
From there Hail headed west along Union Centre, south on Ohio 747, north of Muhlhauser and east on Union Centre Boulevard, he said.
The chase came to a halt around 11:05 a.m. when the vehicle attempted to head south on I-75 at Union Centre and an OSHP unit employed a “pit” maneuver, tapping the back end of the pickup truck with the cruiser’s front bumper and spinning it out on the entrance ramp to the interstate, Long said.
Arrested were Hail, as well as passengers Mike Carey, 42, and David K. Reynolds, 26, also of Kentucky.
Hail faces multiple charges of fleeing and eluding in Butler and Hamilton counties, as well as receiving stolen property charges for the vehicle and its license plates, Long said.
He complained of neck pain and was taken to West Chester Hospital by West Chester Fire Department life squad. After being treated there, he will be taken to the Butler County Jail, he said.
Carey and Reynolds, who were wanted on misdemeanor warrants, were taken to the Hamilton County Justice Center.
