Charles City, IA : Man died in a crash at County Road on August 9th,2016

A Charles City man died after being seriously injured in a crash on Avenue of the Saints near Rudd.

Trent Alan Smith, 23, of Charles City, was driving west on the divided four-lane highway when he hit the back of a semitrailer that had stopped on the road near County Road T26, which is south of Rudd, according to an Iowa State Patrol crash report.

It happened about 11:45 a.m.

Smith was flown by helicopter to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

The crash report said he had life-threatening injuries and was in critical condition.

A Mercy-North Iowa nursing supervisor confirmed Smith’s death Tuesday night.
