Tacoma, WA : 1 killed in Interstate 5 crash in Tacoma on Friday morning, October 21, 2016
Authorities say one person was killed and two others are under arrest for suspected drunk driving after two separate crashes closed down Interstate 5 for hours Friday morning in Tacoma.
KOMO reports several other people were injured in the accidents.
Washington State Patrol Trooper Todd Bartolac said the accidents began before 3 a.m. when a driver slammed into a car on the left shoulder of I-5, causing that car to hit a third car. Then a fourth driver plowed into all three of the other cars. A passenger in that car was taken to the hospital and later died. The driver who caused the initial crash was arrested for investigation of DUI.
Authorities say a second crash nearby happened because the driver wasn't paying attention and hit a cone in the construction area. The driver was also arrested for investigation of DUI.
