Beaufort, SC : Bicyclist struck, killed in Cross Island Parkway wreck on Thursday afternoon, August 18, 2016

A bicyclist was struck by a vehicle and killed Thursday afternoon on the Cross Island Parkway, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office news release.

The man was struck around 5:45 p.m. and pronounced dead a short time later, the release said.

The Sheriff’s Office urges motorists to use U.S. 278 business route and avoid the eastbound Cross Island Parkway.

The man’s name will be released once his family is notified.

The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the wreck with assistance from the Sheriff’s Office.
